Junee Community Power Inc
Junee Community Power Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation. Our main objective is to save households in Junee Shire on rising energy costs.

We have formed a committee and have monthly meetings, usually as a Zoom Meeting at 5pm on the LAST Wednesday of the month (except January and December). As this is a community power group the meetings are open for anyone to attend — use our contact form to request the Zoom Link.

We are exploring different ways to save households on energy costs by conducting home energy audits. This can either be by a Junee Community Power member, or you can conduct it with your family at home. (Home energy audit kits are available at the Junee Library for free to borrow.)

Household Solar PV (photo-voltaic) panels are a massive saver of electricity. We are looking at group discounted buying and installing of solar panels on houses in Junee, also working on ways to help low income earning households save on electricity by proposing an idea of funding half the cost which is paid out of the electricity savings over 5-7 years.

Junee Community Power has established a community circular fund (perpetual fund) to help community bodies to install solar PV and conduct energy efficiency updates by supplying the upfront capital which is then repaid, interest free, out of the energy savings over 5-7 years. The community body will own the installation when paid for and the repaid capital is reused on the next project. We have already funded projects at the Junee Community Centre and Junee Senior Citizen’s Hall.

Objectives

Junee Community Power’s Objectives
Junee Community Power strives to make Junee Shire carbon neutral, energy efficient, and advancing environmental outcomes by:

  1. Promoting the benefits of an all-electric home or business which will save money on energy costs, enhance energy efficiency and be more energy resilient while reducing their carbon footprint.
  2. Aiding the transition to renewable energy by informing the community on how to implement an electrification and energy efficiency action plan.
  3. Informing the community on advancing environmental outcomes by reducing the need to use fossil fuels for energy production.
  4. Assist not-for-profit organisations to select and install high-quality solar PV systems, with remote monitoring, CO2 heat pump hot water, heat pump spilt-system air conditioners, batteries and electric vehicle charging applicable. The annual review highlights the financial benefit, reduction in carbon footprint, and environmental impact.
  5. Use the Junee Community Circular Fund to help fund upfront costs of high-quality sustainable upgrades with an interest-free loan, that helps reduce their carbon footprint.
  6. By building on the Junee Shire Councils Carbon Action Plan.
  7. Assist with the installation of Solar PV, batteries, and electric vehicle charging stations on community assets.
  8. Assist with solar PV and carbon dioxide heat pump hot water systems in homes of vulnerable residents.
  9. Assist homes and businesses in upgrading their thermal envelope to make the home more cozy, healthy, cheaper to run, and more climate change ready.
  10. Assist new homes and businesses to build more sustainably using passive design principles to improve comfort, create a healthierinternal environment that is more climate change responsive and decreases their carbon footprint while saving money.
  11. Advocate for all off-peak electricity to occur during the day to accelerate the renewable energy transition.
  12. Advocate for the removal of gas appliances from all homes and businesses including heating, hot water production, and cooking.
  13. Advocate for the upgrading to more energy-efficient appliances that have come to end-of-life in regard to current efficiency standards and the benefits such as reduction in energy costs, enhanced environmental outcomes, healthier lifestyle, and more money staying in Junee Shire.
